Since 1985, WESTWIND is one of the most renowned German festivals in theatre for young audiences (TYA). The annual festivals are each hosted by a different theatre of Northrhine-Westphalia (NRW) and present NRW productions, international work and an extensive programme of accompanying workshops, panels and discussions.
Since 2009, the “Next Generation Forum” is indespensable to WESTWIND. Young professionals and students from fields such as directing, acting, dance, set design, cultural education, new media or scenic writing respond to the nationwide call for applications, ten are invited.
They engage in discussions about TYA and their personal concept of art. They explore career aspirations while debating the state of the art in contemporary theatre. The forum members attend all festival performances and additional events and take part in post-production discussions. WESTWIND explicitly considers itself an exchange forum between the next generation and established theatre professionals.
